Intermix — How

HOW?

HOW does Intermix work? Intermix sessions are designed to be structured enough to support discussion, while remaining flexible and participant-led.

Intermix sessions run for approximately 90 minutes and are hosted virtually. The organizer plans the first two sessions, though participant-led sessions may open earlier depending on interest. Sessions begin with a brief introduction so the organizer can confirm attendance and accessibility needs. The host then introduces their selected media, followed by open discussion.

A generalized session structure may include an introduction, initial framing or questions, approximately 30–60 minutes of discussion, and a short wrap-up connecting related media or ideas. This structure is optional and may vary by session.

Intermix is grounded in research on informal learning, participatory discussion, and multimodal engagement. To support transparency, the organizer has created an Annotated Bibliography, with an upcoming preprint, documenting the theory and precedents informing the group.

Once participants register, they receive a confirmation email with the event link. A reminder email is sent at least three days prior to the session. Contact information is available on the CONNECT page.
